The livable wage needed for the Greenville/metro areas is at $15 an hour. Minimum wage is currently at $7.25 an hour. There is an agreement on both sides of the aisle that this is not enough. South Carolina is one of five states that currently do not have a declared minimum wage. We need to raise South Carolina’s minimum wage to $10 an hour with a three year hold period. We realize this may put a strain on small businesses. Small businesses with a thousand or less employees would receive a tax cut during the three year period. As well as, they would not have to pay a payroll tax credit on the additional $2.75 an hour.
